The new /campaigns/ranking/serp API endpoint provides a list of all ranked URLs found on a SERP. This is perfect for keeping an eagle on new competition, SERP sentiment analysis, and reputation management.
It’s essentially the same as the Parsed SERP report on the Keyword Rankings page, but can be downloaded programmatically at scale.
An excerpt of same data from the new SERP API endpoint:
Last week, we were approached by a customer with a specific need — they wanted to be able to monitor the top 50 positions on Google for branded terms and do sentiment analysis on each ranking URL. As this was not the typical use case the platform was designed for, we struggled to figure out the best way to provide the data at scale with the currently available tools.
Of course it’s easy to see the top 50 URLs for any keyword in the platform in the Parsed SERP report, and even export this data too. But there wasn’t an easily scalable solution to do this for thousands of keywords. You could add every ranking site as a competitor, but this too was cumbersome.
Being the small team that we are, we decided to use our extremely agile development process to our advantage. This wasn’t the first time we’ve heard a similar request from a customer, in fact this was the 3rd such request in the past month. So we decided right then to build out a new API endpoint to fit this use case.
A week later and here we are — a fantastic new solution for the job, and a great new report available to all Dragon Metrics customers with API access.
We truly believe that the best product ideas come from our customers, and we’ve grown a team that can respond lightning-fast to these requests. Not seeing something you need in the platform? Get in touch and we’ll see what we can do.
The best part for our customers is that the addition of this new endpoint caused us to reflect on how our API has remained largely unchanged for the last several years. With our new Google Data Studio Connectors, we decided it was time to do a complete overhaul of our public API.
Stay tuned for the announcement! The new API will bring a ton of powerful and flexible reporting options, aimed at providing the same kind of reports available in the Dragon Metrics app, without requiring any aggregate calculations on the client end.
